The importance of this project is underscored by Philadelphia’s commitment to urban and regional planning to bring new business, revenue and residents to the city.
2101 Market Street focused both on nes construjcitonand the adaptive reuse of a historic building once occupied by a substantial textile and clothing manufacturer. A new office tower and 300 lulxury high-rise apartments atop a 700 car garage were planned. Views of the city skyline and landmark buidlings such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, as well as retail shopping and vibrant landscaping, were all part of the plan to provide a pedestrian link spanning Market Street to JFK Boulevard.
An existing sewer line in a public right of way crossed the site and could not be moved. This is the reason for the roadway through the ground floor of the office building.
